maSamba Samba School |
| Location: |
Dublin City |
| About: |
MaSamba Samba School is Ireland's premier Afro Brasilian music and dance collective. The group was created on the huge wave of enthusiasm following the 1994 Big Bang Festival at the City Arts Centre. Initially the group was set up as a team-building exercise for the staff of the arts centre, but demands for performances and workshops soon saw the group becoming independent and working in partnership with the City Arts Centre on numerous projects until the Centre closed the doors on their Moss Street premises.
MaSamba has always had an open-door policy of encouraging those with little or no previous drumming experience to attend our weekly community workshops, as well as maintaining a semi-professional performance group which is available to play a wide range of events.
We also deliver workshops in Afro-Brasilian percussion and dance and can design programmes to suit all situations.

maSamba do Mananha |
| Location: |
Dublin City |
| About: |
MaSamba do Mananha is a youth drumming group, set up in 1999, to allow young people from the inner city of Dublin to participate in collective music making.
It all began when members of an adult samba group, maSamba, were practicing on City Quay. Without prior arrangement, young children banging plastic buckets and basins joined the group! Group members decided to investigate the possibilities of setting up a youth samba band in the area, and maSamba do Mananha was born!v
Initially, the group was open to children from the City Quay/Pearse Street area and the group’s first performance was as part of the St. Patrick’s Festival night parade in March 1999.
maSamba do Mananha is now open to young people from throughout Dublin. We provide weekly samba percussion workshops in Westland Row CBS and aim to perform at least six times in any given year.

Beat N Drum |
| Location: |
Belfast |
| About: |
Influenced by traditional drumming, the group ties this with a little bit of funk. We have had a history of preparing for the next parade, so our style is taken from varied influences of good carnival drumming.
On Thursdays we practice as a bateria, influenced by Brasilian rhythms.
There is an open door policy and anyone can come and learn for free. The workshops are popular and if playing in a band twenty or so enthusiastic drummers is your thing; come along and make it twenty one and bring a friend too. If you are dedicated the band gets to do some fantastic gigs and you would be invited. For the more committed learner there is the chance to
develop skills within the band on Monday nights (@6.30pm) and over time get the opportunity to entertain others in fantastic carnival productions, festivals and public performance.
As a pedigree the band have experienced a wide selection of tutelage, and are always looking for more. We seek always seek to connect to other bands, fruits of these partnerships already developed in our Boomdang drumming with ties in European carnival performance. Studying samba has led to some great experiences and hopefully Maracatu styles will develop similar performance opportunities.

| About: |
Formed originally in 2000 with a grant from Samhlaíocht Chiarraí and starter workshops with Simeon Smith from MaSamba, SambaCuisle (Brazilian beats on your streets) has evolved from what was formerly known as Sambasonic. We've been bringing mainly samba reggae rhythms to Kerry and beyond, mostly during the summer months, for the last few years. We practice all year round in Tralee on Monday evenings and anyone willing to participate is welcome to come along and check us out. We've played at 'The Rose of Tralee Festival', 'Killarney Summerfest',' Listowel Writers Week', 'Féile Na Bealtaine, An Daingin' and regularly at other local community events throughout the county.
We are a non-profit community band. Apart from occasional expenses any money earned goes towards equipment, uniforms etc. There are approximately 12 people in the band, divided pretty much equally between men and women and ages ranging from 18 to........older.
We try to enjoy ourselves and share that enjoyment with everyone else...we're on a long learning curve and positive input and new blood is always more than welcome.
